Homes, farmland swamped by floods

As heavy rains brought by tropical storm “Rai” persisted over the upper part of Thailand on September 15, many homes and tracts of farmland in downstream provinces were flooded by runoff. Phitsanulok ordered all scenic waterfalls linked to the Wang Thong River to be closed to visitors as a safety precaution as waters became torrential and the river continued to rise fast. Overflow from the Wang Thong River also hit farmland and riverside homes in Tambon Chainam as well as covering a one-kilometre section of the main road to Ban Noen Klee Moo 7. Officials with flat-bottomed boats went to the aid of around 300 families in the area, while sandbag barriers were built to protect Wang Thong municipal market and other locations.
